What ‘Appropriate’ Looks Like on Venice Beach

Anthony Jumping Off Graffiti Wall

Venice is quickly becoming one of my favorite places to hang out in Los Angeles. The borough is amazingly unique, sunny corner of the United States that’s all about bright colors, sandy shoes, skateboarding, street art, and walking around with your friends, and so much more.

I decided to hit Venice Beach with my good friend and TNG contributor, Fabian, to take some outfit shots and whatever else we could find. For this particular outfit shoot, we wanted to combine style with skateboard culture, as Venice is commonly dubbed the “birthplace” of modern-day skateboarding.

We brought a Riviera long board, a Santa Cruz cruiser, and the vintage, classic blue California Free Former fish board I got from my Uncle Paul years back. He says he got his in the early ’70’s back in Massachusetts, so it’s kind of cool to bring it back to its birthplace in So Cal.

We skated down the bike path on the beach toward the Venice Beach Boardwalk, which was sort of a dream come true experience. Skating has literally never been cooler than that moment.

The boardwalk was full of food, trinkets, and weirdos, but I was only in search of one thing: the perfect straw hat.

Earlier in the day, I had decided that my outfits needed a hat in order to make perfect sense. It’s Venice, there’s a lot of sun, people wear hats! It’s a thing. The only reasonable thing I could think of was to scour the boardwalk buy a hat from an old lady in a dirty shop. $17 bucks later, here are the completed outfits.

BETTER THAN A FRAT

It’s a newsletter, but not, like, annoying. Cool? Good.
